Manual challenge was to design a building that looked good installed in her neighborhood and shows while maintaining the modern touch. So came the idea of using the ancient art of origami to create a double glass wall fun that would define the local construction.
The Japanese art of origami inspired architect Manuelle Gautrand to design the headquarters of the French Bank and Barclays Capital gave artistic and avant-garde design, using natural light to create a light atmosphere.
The front wall is composed of two components, the inner glass wall acting as a curtain and with a marble pattern screen printed on steel panels mounted on the front. Marble panels are fitted into a triangular aluminum and its location gives it the appearance of the folds of origami. The “open book” as the model to provide an umbrella in the front grille and a balcony above.
As paper fans are manufactured by alternating projections and recesses pleated folds of marble were too deep in the center of the facade, which gradually flatten towards the edge of the building. To create this illusion, the architect has used three different models of marble, a darker shade on the inside and two lighter colored marble that covers the edge.
Screen printed marble pieces were selected real marble veneer that because the designs and colors can be handled easily. Furthermore, the marble has a tendency to crystallize in appearance when cut too thin, and the screens shown to be more durable which remain symmetrical structure.
The best part of the building origami is that it allows incredible views of the interior and look better from the outside. The building is a testament to how a simple design idea can become a charismatic piece of architecture.
