Ever wanted a private nook in your bedroom, just to read and relax in? Here’s how!
Steps :
Shelves. To start, you’ll need some shelves. They don’t need to be big fancy bookshelves, just some sort of shelving that you can put books on. You’ll need at least two shelves. They can be the same height, or different. Put them both against a wall, with one of them in the corner. Leave enough space in between them for you to be in.
Roof. To put a roof on your nook, just take a pretty, light piece of cloth and attatch it, with putty, tape,or whatever you want to use, to the tops of the two shelves. If the shelves are different heights, then you’ll get a slanted roof. (this step is optional)
Door. It is not neccessary to have a door, but it is nice sometimes. To make your ‘door’, you can either take another piece of cloth and attatch it to the tops of the shelves, or just use the same cloth as for the roof and pull it down over the entrance. “Note: if you use cloth, and you don’t have a roof, you’ll have a cool ‘look-out’ through the top of your nook.” Another type of door is a shelf. If your shelf doesn’t have wheels, just make one of your original two shelves stick out in front of the other one. Put your door shelf next to this shelf that sticks out. This way, you enter through the side of the shelf that doesn’t stick out, because it will create a little gap you can sneak through. Or, even better, get a shelf on wheels so it will be easy to move when you are trying to get in or out.
Decor. Stock up your shelves with your favorite books. You should also have a little lamp and a flashlight or two. On the walls, you can put pictures, or just leave them bare. In a nook for older children/teens, you might want to put in a nice chair and a little table. But younger kids will really enjoy just a big comfy pillow and a few blankets on the ground to sit on.
Tips
Wire shelving works really well, if you can find the right kind. There is a kind where there are just individual wire shelving squares, and you can attatch them to eachother and create basically any shape shelves you want.
